Technically, we met in 2011 on Cornell College's admitted student Facebook page but that is more embarrassing than saying "we met in college." Even more technically, we met in person in the parking lot of the Cedar Rapids Red Roof Inn after I convinced my very charitable parents to drive 20 minutes and pick up this boy I had been texting for six months. We walked around campus together before New Student Orientation began and by the end of the day, we were finishing each other's sentences. Nine days into our first year in college, we made it official.
After three years together and countless trips to Petland in Iowa City, we added a squirmy puppy named Jake to our lives! He came to us from a rescue in Casey, IL and was the last of his litter to be adopted. Predicted to be 60 pounds, he grew into his designated space on our couch and now tips the scales at a whopping 90 pounds. He will be attending our wedding as the only other member of the wedding party and we are sure that he does not care at all.
We have encountered a lot of questions over the years about when and if we're getting married. It started to seem like other people were a lot more nervous about our marital status than we were! After discussing it a few times over the previous few years, we thought it might be fun to host a small party and tie the knot while we're at it. Marc officially proposed on December 22nd, 2021. He spent an undisclosed amount of time crafting a set of 100 cards listing the things he loves our life, our home, and me. Given as five individual sets, the final one read "you have excellent taste in jewelry" and there he was, down on one knee. We're both fairly sure he said some additional lovely things but neither one of us can remember what they were. We laughed, we cried, and we got engaged.
We have invited only the nearest and dearest friends and family to attend our wedding this September 9th, 2022, our 11th anniversary. Our ceremony will take place on Friday evening in the backyard of a beautiful lake house near the Illinois/Wisconsin border, with the reception immediately following in the same location! Please join us for an evening of love, laughter, and absolute shenanigans as we celebrate our marriage. We can't wait to see you.
