Disclaimer: this is not a love at first sight story. We don’t remember the first time we met each other but we think it was sometime in 2015 after Marc moved back to Atlanta from New York. Lindsey had just graduated from law school and moved in with Elizabeth, who was dating Marc’s best friend, Nate. Over those years, we became close friends. We met each other’s families, went on lots of trips with our friends, and gambled on many football games. In 2019, we were both single at the same time for the first time since we met and something changed. After months of little moments, glances, jokes, and “encouragement” (pestering) from all of our friends, our close friendship turned into more. Finally, after a final push from our friend Erica after "State/State" (see below) we decided to give it a shot. Best decision of our lives.
1) The Local for Monday Night Football. This was before we were officially dating but the first time we spent time alone together. We later realized this was actually our first date. 2) Ammazza Pizza. What was supposed to be a group dinner turned into an intimate meal that both of us separately realized was a date shortly after we sat down for dinner. 3) Friendsgiving + State/State. The night our relationship became "official" started with Disney Power Hour and an impromptu trip to a Georgia State vs. Appalachian State football game. That game is now referred to among our close friends as "State/State".
The proposal officially went down on February 20, 2021, but really it happened much earlier than that. It started in September 2020, in Marc’s beloved Great Smoky Mountains. There, he showed Lindsey’s mother the ring he was making and told her he wanted very badly to marry her daughter. It continued on Thanksgiving where, on a cold night in Wisconsin, he expressed his intentions to Lindsey’s dad while grilling souvlaki over a few cold ones. Shortly after, he told his parents and his siblings and really anyone that cared to listen. And on it went, until that Saturday in February. On February 20, Lindsey was led to believe that she was going to an outdoor brunch for Nate’s birthday. Before calling an Uber, Marc devised a rouse that led them to the roof of his loft building. After a quick scan of the skyline, Marc proposed. After Lindsey said yes, both of their families burst onto the roof. After some champagne, many hugs, and infinity pics, we walked down the block to an outdoor brewery, the Imaginarium, and drank beers with our family and friends all afternoon. It was the best day of our lives.
