How We Met

Middle school is the time of development and puppy love. They met each other in their shared gym class. Marc was sat in front of Amanda during attendance. Amanda's friend at the time had dared her to stick papers down Marc's back to mess with him. And seeing it as a way to strike up a conversation, she did it. Soon after they became friends. Soon a crush developed and the two became best friends who knew no better of the future. Constant teasing and bullying in disguise of the crushes. Eventually Amanda moved away, and throughout the years the two stayed in contact. Amanda reached out to Marc to invite him to her Sweet 16 and alas he could not come. So back to messages and check-in's. Both still having puppy love crushes. It wasn't until junior year of high school the two re-met. They hadn't seen each other since 8th grade. Marc had gotten a job in the same plaza as Amanda, and while on her break she ran over to Target to pick up some items. And when she got to the check out line, there was Marc. The two laughed at the coincidence and exchanged numbers. They planned their breaks together and spent time getting to know each other all over again. February 15th 2013, Marc stopped by Amanda's job and dropped off a bag of opened chocolates as a late Valentine's Day gift. Confused as to why it was open, she made a mental note to ask later, but forgot. March 5th, 2013 Marc asked Amanda to "be mine". She said yes, their following Valentine's Day together she remembered the opened bag of chocolates and asked. Marc admitted that he originally placed a note in the bag asking her out, but chickened out and removed the note. The two had been together for over 5 years when Marc asked Amanda to marry him. And now here we are....

The Proposal

From Amanda’s Perspective

So Marc has a huge fear of heights, and we were actually planning a trip with his family. A cruise! We went to Bermuda, St. Maarten, Labadee, and San Juan. During the planning he started saying he would take me up to the tops of the cliffs in Bermuda. Which I found rather odd due to the fact he has that terrible fear. So I became suspicious. We eventually got there and climbed up. No ring haha. Then he told me how we HAD to go to a fountain and the fort in San Juan, again I became suspicious for how he determined he was to get there. (No ring). He asked me the following day if I was enjoying myself and I told him of course but he was acting so suspicious that I honestly thought he was gonna propose. He told me hadn’t bought a ring or even thought about what he wanted to do exactly. So I put it out of mind. The next night was formal night, when we dress up nice for dinner. He had them bring out dessert to me and I thought oh wow this dessert looks fancy. I order baked Alaska. Never had it. Had no idea what to expect. They lifted the dome and underneath it was a coupon/note I gave to Marc our first Valentine’s Day together. It was originally blank and he wrote in “good for one...hand in marriage.” And pulled out an opal Celtic style ring. And of course I’ll deny crying. But now here we are!

The Proposal

From Marc’s Perspective

Ever since our first year together I knew she was something special. I had saved a note/coupon from our first Valentines Day and it had said “Good for one...” ( I had to fill in the blank with a request for her) and I always knew what I had wanted to use this for. I originally always wanted to do the proposal in Bermuda on the rock overlooking Horseshoe Bay, but honestly my fear of heights made me think I would drop the ring. I had told Amanda, since I’ve been to Bermuda before, of the great view you can get from climbing the rock as just an idea for planning what to do on the cruise. I later started to do a bit of research on Puerto Rico, but due to the hurricane that had recently gone through, a lot of Puerto Rico had been damaged. Everything online made it seem like the places I wanted to go to, we’re all damaged. I then called Royal Caribbean to make sure I knew what days and times the formal nights were so I could set up my proposal for the formal dinner on the way back. After the cruise ship started heading back, I had asked Amanda if she was having fun, she seemed to be a little down, she then confessed that she had thought I was going to propose to her on one of the islands. I had to get her mind off of it, so I had told her I was planning to do it later this year, and that I haven’t had the ring even picked out(she had no idea what was happening lol). The following day, we headed towards dinner and I had my dad ask the waiter we have to deliver the note on a plate for Amanda’s desert. When Amanda had ordered her Baked Alaska some of the staff had to announce they had a special event and gathered our attention. They put the plate in front of her and had her reveal it. Underneath the cover was the note saying “Good for one... hand to hold in marriage” along with a hand folded dinner napkin in the shape of a rose. While she said never technically said the word yes in that, she did accept the proposal and she definitely did cry no matter how much she denies it.
