After having been friends of friends (and in Mara’s case, unknowingly friends with Rueben’s sister Angelina) for strangely long amount of time, and living surprisingly parallel lives, we formally met in high school through theatre and poetry club. As two weirdos with similar hobbies and senses of humor, we hit it off and became good friends! After a while that friendship turned into a deeper connection, resulting in Mara taking the leap and doing the scariest thing a teenager can do. Asking someone out. (Spoiler: it worked) After that success, our humble beginnings have blossomed into the wonderful present. And after 5 years, Rueben was the one to take the leap of faith after proposing on February 5th, 2023 (our anniversary!)
