Tisch and Cocktail Reception

4:00 pm

The wedding festivities will begin promptly at 4 pm EST with the cocktail reception and the tisch. (Note that the cocktail reception is before the ceremony, not after.) The tisch, a Yiddish word for “table," is a joyous event during which guests will sit around a long table to eat, drink, dance, sing, and share words of Torah. All are welcome to participate. Max will be in the room for the beginning of the tisch, while Mara will be elsewhere. Then, after a short period of time, Mara will be led by friends and family into the tisch room, when Max and Mara will see each other for the first time in several days. They will then join together will all their friends and family to continue the tisch celebration. As the tisch winds down, the bedekin will happen as Max veils Mara. The couple will then receive blessings from their parents.

Chuppah

5:00 pm

After the parents’ blessings, guests will be invited into the sanctuary for the ceremony under the chuppah (wedding canopy). A traditional Jewish wedding ceremony consists of two parts: erusin (betrothal) and nissuin (marriage). After the completion of these two ceremonies, Mara and Max will break a glass, and then be danced by their friends and family out of the sanctuary to have a private moment together before the reception.

Reception

6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

After the ceremony, guests are welcome into the wedding hall for dancing and dinner.
