We’re getting married! Again!

With the blessings of the Almighty, we had our Nikah (Mio had his first-ever experience in the mosque—10/10, would recommend—and even walked out with a brand-new name, Mohammed Younis). Then came our traditional ceremony, where the bride was warmly welcomed into the groom’s family. And, as vegetarian as she is, she still took part in utyisa amasi (a tradition where the bride drinks sour milk and goat meat as a symbol of being accepted into the family) and utsiki nokuthiywa igama (a ritual where the bride is given a new name by the groom’s family). So, while Mio became Mohammed Younis, Adi also got an upgrade to Liyahluma—because clearly, one wedding isn’t enough, and neither are one pair of names! Now, it’s time for our big day—our first wedding and anniversary all in one! We’d love for you to celebrate our white wedding with us as we make it officially official (again).
