Uber is the best way to get around the city. Make sure to check the license plate before getting on. We do not recommend hailing taxis in the street. The currency in Colombia is the Colombian Peso (COP). Foreign credit/debit cards are widely accepted. We recommend double checking whether your bank charges foreign transaction fees, and letting them know you will be traveling abroad to prevent your bank from freezing your card. The best places to take out cash are ATMs. While there are cash exchanges all over, we recommend against them because the exchange rates are usually not as competitive. La moneda en Colombia es el peso colombiano (COP). Las tarjetas de crédito/débito extranjeras se pueden usar en la gran mayoría de establecimientos. Les sugerimos revisar si su banco cobra cargos por cambio de moneda. También les recomendamos informar a su banco sobre su viaje al exterior para evitar que congelen su tarjeta. El mejor lugar para cambiar dinero es en el cajero automático. Hay muchas casas de cambio por la ciudad para cambiar efectivo, pero tengan en cuenta que el precio de compra generalmente va a ser mejor con el cajero.

Like in any big city, you should be cautious when walking around and you should always remain within the tourist areas. We do not recommend walking around late at night - always order an Uber instead (and make sure to check the license plate before getting on). Additionally, we suggest not to take out your cellphone or jewelry/expensive watches when walking out in the street. It is best to leave passports and important documents at the hotel and carry only a picture ID. As credit/debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, there is no need to carry much cash. Como en cualquier ciudad grande, hay que tener cuidado cuando se camina y siempre se debe permanecer en las zonas turísticas. No recomendamos caminar tarde en la noche; siempre es preferible pedir un Uber (y siempre revisen la patente del vehículo antes de subirse). Adicionalmente, no es aconsejable sacar el celular ni joyas/relojes costosos al caminar por la calle. Es recomendable dejar pasaportes y documentos importantes en el hotel y salir con una copia del pasaporte o una licencia de conducción. Las tarjetas de crédito/débito son aceptadas en casi todos los establecimientos, así que no hay necesidad de cargar con mucho efectivo.
