It seems like it was just yesterday...Marquee...NYC...New Years Eve...need we say more??? Ok, so here it goes... The end of 2014 was not such a positive time in the Foley household as Sean's grandfather, Ba, unfortunately passed away after a long, well-lived life. After spending some time back in Chicago for the wake and funeral, the Foley family already had a trip scheduled to San Diego that would act as a time to heal, recharge, and escape the frigid Chicago winter... While the trip did not disappoint (check out Rancho Valencia ;) Sean returned to NYC right before the New Year with little motivation and desire for a NYE banger... After much discussion and push back with his buddy, Taylor, Sean was somehow convinced and reluctantly agreed to head out with a group of guys to Marquee to meet his future bride-to-be, Manuela. After lots of scoping (look it up Baby Boomers and Gen X'ers) and a couple cocktails, midnight was approaching and the infamous "midnight kiss" became a hot topic amongst Sean's friends. Truthfully, we did not have an official, official midnight kiss, but Sean dressed well enough to make an impression on Manuela and the rest is history as we exchanged numbers that night and went to Hillstone (think NYC's Wildfire equivalent, good choice, right??) on Park Avenue for our first real date. Manuela got salmon and Sean got chicken and that's enough... In all seriousness, what was a tough time in the Foley household was the catalyst for a life-changing event that we are so excited to celebrate with you all in Colombia (two 'O's'!!) this May!
It's Manuela's hometown! And also... Called the “city of eternal spring” for it’s permanently pleasant weather. The people are called Paisas and they are a proud, hopeful culture that loves to talk. They will serenade you with stories about their city, their past, and their future. Their pace is a bit slower and they are not in a rush. And if you are into ratings: Not only has Lonely Planet called Colombia the 2nd Best Country to Visit in 2017, but Travel & Leisure has dubbed it “South America’s Best Kept Secret”.
