Both Mandy and Grant are from the Zanesville area, and never met before. While Grant was away at college, he began working at the Kroger in Athens. Once he graduated with his Bachelor's Degree, Grant moved back home and transferred to the Kroger in Zanesville. Mandy had just finished her Bachelor's degree in December 2017. She started substituting that February and once the school year was over, began picking up more hours at Kroger (she had worked there for over 6 years at the time). Mandy was told that there was going to be a new employee transferring from another store, but she didn't know it would turn out to be the man she would spent the rest of her life with. Mandy was "in charge" one Monday night, and Grant was working as well-his second day. At the time, Kroger was having issues with a specific customer stealing books and magazines, and he was at the Self Checkout that Grant was monitoring. Mandy approached Grant and informed him about the situation... but there was one thing, the customer was deaf. So Mandy told Grant that he had to address the customer using sign language-very basic, just the sign for "book." Grant had no idea and seemed pretty uncomfortable, so Mandy went ahead, approached the customer and took care of everything. Mandy proceeded to tease Grant that he couldn't do it the rest of the night, lol. They even walked to their vehicles together that night and got each other's Snapchat usernames... and the rest is history♥

It was a beautiful fall evening, the one weekend that Mandy actually had free in the fall. Earlier that week, Mandy's friend Kaylee had asked if we could have a fire that weekend and Mandy told her it would be great idea, especially because Grant's best friend from college, Jake, was going to be staying that weekend! Fall, Fire, Friends, sounds like the best Saturday night! Little did Mandy know, everything would change! And, it was actually pre-planned (Mandy had no idea!!). Everyone sat by the fire enjoying time together, when Grant and Jake said, "We are going to go inside and get the s'mores stuff." Mandy said okay, and was excited because she LOVES s'mores, lol. After a few minutes, Jake and Grant returned and Mandy noticed that Grant brought their Cat, Nala outside on the harness. Mandy begins to get on Grant's case about bringing Nala outside-because it was dark and she didn't want her to get lost- when Grant says, "Nala has a note for you." Then, Mandy looks at Nala and notices a note attached to her harness. Mandy grabs the note and inside it says, "Dad has something for you." By the time Mandy was done reading, Grant is down on his knee and asks her, "Will you marry me?" Mandy, who was feeling all the emotions responds with, "Are you sure?" which made everyone laugh, but eventually Mandy's actual answer was, YES.
