Mandy & Tommy met on a Friday in April of 2016. Mandy was teaching in Syracuse and went to Wolff's Biergarten with Carrie to celebrate spring break. Tommy was finished with medical school at Upstate, and he was working at Wolff's as a bartender. Tommy served Mandy and they struck up an innocent conversation about George Michael's song "Faith", which Tommy, being the youngin that he is, did not recognize. Mandy continued to semi-dance, semi-karaoke to the song at the bar, much to the dismay of Tommy. There was something about his blue baseball tee that swept her off her feet. She was smitten--- love at first sight. She quickly wrote a note to Tommy on a the only paper she could find, a Chipotle coupon, and gave him her number, hoping to hear from him. She ran out of the bar, excited and slightly embarrassed. The next day, Tommy texted Mandy something cheeky about George Michael's music. They were suppose to meet up that evening for a date at a Mexican restaurant in Tommy's neighborhood. Mandy arrived way too early, texting Becky and Kevin all the while. When Tommy didn't show up after 5 minutes and then 10, Mandy assumed the worst. She left and went home to bed, very bummed because there was just something about Tommy. BUT, she woke up to messages from Tommy at 1 am. He had fallen asleep before their date, but was headed to the restaurant at 1 am. Mandy trusted that he had fallen asleep (as he is prone to do) and quickly agreed to a redo date. The next afternoon, they met at Recess Coffee. Tommy came in looking so dapper in his light blue jeans and black coat. Mandy, appropriately, was wearing her workout clothes and a headband. (Some things haven't changed. Re: See engagement photo.) The date went great, and they connected over good books, vegetarianism, animals and country music. The date went longer than expected, and Mandy got a parking ticket, and a hug. They had their first kiss 24 hours later. Almost 3 years to the day, Tommy proposed--using a Chipotle coupon.
