Our Beginning

June 2011

Pat and I met during the summer of 2011 at a party that I was having one night at my then college house; I specifically remember meeting Pat in the living room that night and thinking “this guy is such a goofball” after chatting with him and his best friend Johnny. I also remember arguing with them because I didn’t want to share my cheesey bread with them after having a couple of adult beverages. Over the next couple of years, Pat and I hung out often with our group of friends which usually entailed all of us either going to Pourhouse/Black Bear in Hartford or just hanging out at friends houses. We always had a lot of fun but I never (initially) thought of anything further. One September afternoon in 2015, while sitting on my living room floor doing homework, I received a text from Pat asking if I wanted to hang out and grab a drink at Sliders. I was so caught off guard and thought to myself “just us?!” but I agreed and from that point on we hung out almost every week (at Sliders often staying until close). After a couple of months and lots of Sliders hang outs, we eventually expressed our feelings for each other and made it “official” on March 6, 2016.

The Proposal

11/22/19

In November of 2019, Pat and I decided to head up to my parents lake house for a long weekend. After a long work week, we drove up to New Hampshire and went to bed in prep for a hike the next day. That morning, we woke up and made a big yummy breakfast while listening to some of our favorite music (Fleetwood and The Eagles) before heading out for the hike in the White Mountains at Sabbaday Falls. It was about a two hour drive to get to the mountains but we were ready for an adventure; Pat was acting a little goofier than usual but I didn’t think too much about it. Once we arrived, we realized we would be hiking a very icy trail...no joke, the trail was completely covered in ice. We were hesitant but decided to commit to the adventure. We walked up the very slippery trail eventually reaching the top and began to explore the waterfalls. After a couple of minutes, Pat pointed out a small sandy area by the water that had no ice or snow to “take pictures” of the pretty view. After snapping a few fun pictures I realized how suspiciously quiet it was....as I turned around, I found Pat down on one knee! After turning away in shock, yelling “SHUT THE FRONT DOOR” and then turning back to him, Pat expressed his love and asked to spend forever together. I am not an easy person to surpise, but Pat pulled it off and he did it perfectly. After, we slid back down the trail to the car, drove until we had signal, and stopped at a Dunkin’ to celebrate with dounts, because duh, and facetime with our family. We decided after to drive around the mountains before grabbing some dinner at a cute little brewery and then headed back home to soak it all in. It was an absolutely perfect day.
