Nigerian Elements
We will be incorporating some of Wale's Nigerian (Yoruba) traditions into our celebration including traditional outfits, music, and “spraying”.
As in most cultures, Nigerian weddings are a cause for celebration and gathering. In Nigeria, it is common for entire communities to show support to a bride and groom because it is the community accepting a new family coming together.
“Spraying”: Considered one of the highlights of a Nigerian wedding reception, this tradition involves the bride and groom dancing while the guests “shower” or “spray” them with cash. This symbolizes a showering of happiness, good fortune, and is a display of the guest's affection for the couple. If you'd like to participate in this tradition we suggest bringing cash.
Attire: Many guests will wear ‘aso-ebi’, color coordinated traditional outfits of the bride/grooms wedding colors. Women will wear an ‘iro’ and ‘buba’ (beaded outfit) and a 'gele' (headwrap). Men will wear an agbada (a two-piece outfit).
