Perpignan Rivesaltes

À seulement 20 minutes du lieu de mariage, sans aucun doute l'aéroport le plus pratique! Il y a environ trois vols par jours depuis Paris, ainsi que des vols depuis d'autres villes européennes et Londres (quand Ryanair est de bonne humeur). The airport at Perpignan is only 20 minutes drive from the wedding. It is a smaller airport though, so in order to fly here you will have to connect. Paris is the most common connection and has the most flights, though it's not strictly speaking the only option. If you do connect through Paris, you will have to change from Charles De Gaulle (main international airport) to Orly, which is across the city. There is a bus connection or you can take a taxi. If you wanted to visit Paris for a day or two before or after the wedding this might be a good option. If you do fly to Perpignan, there are taxis and car rentals available at the airport (book in advance for car rentals), or some kind soul could probably be found to pick you up.

Barcelona

Si vous venez de loin c'est parfois votre seule option, mais attention car l'aéroport de Barcelone est à environ 2h20 de route de Bages, avec très peu de choix au niveau des trains (au moment où j'écris ces lignes les deux seuls trains par jour entre Barcelone et Perpignan partent à 8h et 9 h du matin respectivement). À moins que votre vol n'atterisse à Barcelone à l'aube, le plus simple est de louer une voiture ou de réserver un blablacar. Flying to Barcelona is probably going to be the simplest option (with direct flights from US cities) but once in BCN, it's a bit more complicated to get to the wedding. The simplest thing is to rent a car: it's a 2h20 (easy) drive from the airport. It is also possible to take the bullet train (TGV) to Perpignan. You will take a train straight from the airport to Barcelona Sants and transfer to the TGV there. See the TGV section below for further details. If you fly into Barcelona, consider spending a day or two to explore the city!

Le Centre du Monde! Même que c'est pas moi qui l'ai dit c'est Dalí. À juste 20 minutes de Bages, c'est clairement la meilleure option pour rallier le lieu de mariage depuis n'importe quel autre point de l'Hexagone. Nous vous encourageons donc à faire un geste pour la planète tout en soutenant notre belle Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français. The train station/gare in Perpignan is a 20 minutes drive from the wedding. Clearly the easiest way to arrive if you're coming from anywhere else in France. It'll take you 5 hours from Paris, and only 1:30h from Barcelona (careful because there's only 2 trains a day though!). If you do fly into BCN and want to take the train the same day, allow 2 hours from landing for customs and transit to the train. Link to train website is below. You will need to make reservations for the TGV; don't expect to show up and buy a ticket the day of your travel.

Renting a Car

Having access to a car is kind of a must, especially if you will join us for the party week after. Not everyone needs their own car of course, and we encourage you to coordinate and share cars. Depending on where you arrive, there are various options for rentals. You will have to research this on your own, but here are a few pointers about the process. -First off, whomever is renting the car, or is included as an additional driver, needs to get an international driver's license. It's super easy to do; you just have to pay a fee and do some paperwork. This can be done through the state department or through AAA. -Remember that French cars are smaller than what you are used too. -Try to rent the biggest car possible. The more people you can fit into it the better. Some agencies have mini vans that seat 7, and some have larger vans that seat 9. -Most rentals will be manual. If you can't drive manual, make sure you specify a rental that it is automatic.

Hébergement / Lodging for the Wedding

À Bages, chacun aura la possibilité de camper ou de dormir dans une grande salle commune. Si la vie en plein air ou en communauté n'est pas votre aspiration du weekend cependant, vous trouverez une grande variété de gîtes, chambres d'hôtes, ou airbnbs dans le coin (voir le lien ci-dessous pour une liste d'hébergements). We will be having our party at the Despoux house. Anyone is welcome to sleep there for free, either camping on the lawn or sleeping on the floor in a large shared room. You will have access to toilets and showers. If that doesn't sound appealing there is a variety of places nearby that people can rent. We have found a few very nice spots which sleep 20-25 people, but there's every size and type of place available. Look for places near the town of Bages (66670). There are several towns called Bages, so be sure you use the correct zip code! We made a google document with a link to it below. Feel free to use and edit this as needed to coordinate amongst yourselves.

Et puis au vert! ...A week in the country afterwards

C'est toujours triste de voir la fête finir et les amis s'éparpiller à nouveau, et pour pallier à ce dur coup au moral nous vous invitons tous à poursuivre les réjouissances la semaine suivante dans le bel hameau de Puivert. Rando, rafting, vélo, équitation et fiesta en perspective! Voir le lien ci dessous pour plus de détails. After the wedding, we invite all who wish to a lovely village called Puivert. Nestled in a beautiful valley at the foothills of the Pyrenees, it offers a thousand different things to do in and nearby the village. We will be there from the night of Monday May 30th to Monday June 6th. We rented a hostel/Gîte in the village that sleeps 24. We plan to use that as our communal hangout space, and anyone who wants can sleep there for free. If you would like a fancier place however, there are many airbnb/ b&bs available in the village. Don't wait too long though, as reservations will soon start filling up. Link to a google doc. to organize and coordinate below.
