We met in the pods in Salem, Oregon. For anyone who doesn't know what those are, it's a place for homeless that gives you a small living space to share with a roommate to keep you off the streets. They also work to get you into housing as well and do medical etc. I was with my abusive ex wife. No need to dredge on that story because I came to my senses and ran from her and that's how I made it to Hood River, the shelter out here saved my life. Some time passed and I made a decision to stay out here all while Duke is back at the pods scouring through it looking for someone with my phone number. Well, he was successful because he's good at finding things and one day I received a text message. After that, we were off to a wonderful friendship, but we were dating. He eventually decided to move out to Hood river and he got into the pods out here while I was still in the shelter. He was dedicated to being close to me and next to me. He asked me to move in with him at the pods and I said yes because it was a good opportunity for resources and also to give another woman a chance to receive help if needed. At the pods I hit the ground running and got a job with them, but also worked my ass off the find a place to live. We stumbled onto the place we are at now and just went for it and applied. We got into it, with lots of hard work and determination. We are both clean now. I got clean first and he followed suit. My kids are back in my life now and have a relationship with both of us. After we moved in together we became closer and closer, but not without its downs at times. I lost my job a few times and he did once, so with the support of our surrounding family of friends we have gotten this far and we continue to succeed. It wasnt some romantic proposal or anything extravagant, but it was a decision from the bottom of both of our hearts. I love him and he loves me. We beat all odds and we continue to beat odds.
