Nick and Mal rarely crossed paths for the better part of their time at University of Dayton, finally meeting in their second semester of their senior year through mutual friends. Nick and Mal shared their first “date” eating loaded tater tots and vodka sodas at Tims, which they realized were the first of many things they had in common. Over the last month of school with graduation looming, they continued to spend as much time together as possible knowing that the odds were stacked against them. With Mal heading to grad school in Chicago and Nick heading back to UD for grad school and a job lined up in Cleveland after, they weren’t optimistic that things would work out. After graduation and Dayton 2 Daytona, they continued to talk every day and decided to give long distance a shot. Over the next three years, their relationship grew through many trips to Chicago, Dayton, Cleveland and Michigan via planes, megabuses, greyhounds, and car rides. Somehow, Nick was able to persuade the Michigan fan to move to Cleveland after graduation. Exactly five years after deciding to officially take a chance at what most people probably thought was crazy, Nick asked Mal to marry him. And now we cannot wait to celebrate with all of our family and friends!
