Two theatre kids met in the way that you'd expect: doing weird movement exercises together at a callback audition. He thought I was a freshman, I thought he was stunning. One late-night snack and Lord of the Rings discussion later, we were friends. Ten days later, we went on our first date. Never had a brightly-colored pair of socks been so attractive as they were on him in that movie theatre. "This is where I seduce you," he said, gesturing at the aforementioned brightly-colored socks. "I've never felt like a real woman before this moment," I replied. The rest was history.
Dylan told me, not one month before, that he didn't think we'd be engaged for a while yet. So the question of a proposal was well and truly out of my mind when it happened. In retrospect, you'd think that him taking me around Los Angeles to film ourselves talking about the most important parts of our relationship would have tipped me off. It didn't. I didn't start to feel like something was up until I was told not to look in his backpack before we set out on a hike one cloudy Saturday morning, but even then, I wasn't convinced a proposal could truly be happening. It was only when we were seated on a beautiful mountain lookout overlooking Glendale, our home neighborhood of LA, when he gave me a beautiful piece of digital art promising that he'd go with me on every adventure I chose to pursue, that I knew a proposal must be happening. He invited me to stand, knelt down, and asked me to marry him. There were tears, smiles, and even a stealthy friend who jumped out of a bush to take photos. In one beautiful instant, life changed forever. We can't wait to celebrate the start of our next chapter with you. We'll see you on Captiva Island!
