“We’re Engaged!”

When I first met Ashton, it was love at first sight. Our eyes met and I just knew that he was the person I wanted to spend my life with at all costs. We were both 19, young and dumb in the military. We had some bumpy roads but no matter what life had planned for us, it always made sure we were at each-other’s side. Our first meeting was followed by a good few barracks parties that live endlessly in my memory, teaming up with him in a game of “water-pong”, watching scary movies/videos together, making a promise to each-other that we were gonna say we were 23 instead of 19 if anyone asked, gas mask VR games, etc. One fateful night, we stayed up until 9am watching scary movies and laughing all night telling dumb jokes just to hear the other laugh. From that night on, we were inseparable, Ashton moved into my room and we’d stay up nearly every night talking about anything and everything under the sun. Instead of jumping the gun with the “I love you’s” we’d both say “I love everything about you” until one day, I was driving us both to get some food and Ashton couldn’t wait a second longer, at a red light he turned to me and said “I love you Malia”. Fast forward to now and our love has been anything but ordinary, we’re both 22 now, we have two amazing cats and live in a cute house together and we’re on our path to success. Our story isn’t “perfect” but it’s ours, and who’s to say what’s perfect anyways? We’ve faced many real struggles but always bounced back stronger, our relationship may not receive all the support in the world but we have each-other and that’s all that matters. Now, having married in secret, we are planning a wedding, or “vow renewal” for October 2025 in order to celebrate this marriage with all who support us.
