The Story of Us

Aaron and Malia first met in Eugene in 2016 while working at Firstsource, a chat center for Verizon Wireless. Malia was a little busy being yelled at by customers to notice him at first, but Aaron was immediately charmed by her fast typing speed (89 WPM). A few weeks passed full of playful banter; co-workers were placing bets on the two and dropping hints to Malia, but she was ever oblivious, fully dedicated to her own future as a single cat lady. That all changed on May 7th, 2016 when Aaron invited Malia to see Captain America: Civil War with him and his friends. She showed up at the wrong theater and had to message Aaron that she wouldn't be able to make it. However, he insisted on picking her up, abandoning his friends and missing the first 30 minutes of the movie to get her. He further insisted on being her ride for the rest of the night, driving her to the restaurant and back home. It was while they were on the way to dinner, fiddling with the car radio and discussing the movie that Malia realized how happy she was around Aaron, and how clueless she'd been not to see it before. Cue the lightbulb turning on and loud applause. On June 4th, 2016, they were officially dating. The following year, they would move in together, and on November 27, 2017, they moved to Portland, OR where they now live with two cats, Sophie and Hamilton, and a tortoise, Alice. Fast-forward to June 13th, 2019. It was a misty day on Loch Ness. After months of saving, they'd made it to Scotland for their 3rd anniversary. After a failed search for Nessie, the two found a lookout point right on the water for a picnic. While admiring the view, Aaron had Malia close her eyes and hold out her hands for a present he got her. When she opened her eyes, there was a wooden box with a pretty ring. One minor panic attack later, Malia asked if he had a question. "Will you marry me?" Aaron asked, to which she smiled and replied, "Okay."
