How We Met

From shaping art to stealing hearts.

We met in ceramics class at Wichita State University, both taking it just to get an art credit for our non‑art degrees. It started when Maleena was struggling to get her very lopsided clay to center on the wheel and asked the kid with long hair for help. That kid was Teague—surprisingly good at pottery—while Maleena’s first few bowls after that were still a little… creative. Before long, we were spending late nights in the studio, covered in clay and talking about everything. When the semester ended, we stopped talking for a little while—until Teague messaged one evening and asked if Maleena wanted to go for a late‑night drive. She said yes right away, as long as she wasn’t the one driving. One drive turned into many as we explored Wichita and found spots to walk and talk. Then one night, sitting at the red light on Webb and 13th, Teague was in the middle of explaining how a computer motherboard works when Maleena suddenly said: “I think I like you.” He looked over, surprised, and said: “I’ve been thinking the same thing.” And just like that, on February 25th, 2022, we started dating—proof that even the most wobbly clay can turn into something worth keeping. 💛
