Our story began in 2016, during my first days on Rutgers’ campus. After moving in, I walked around to get familiar with my surroundings. As I passed the Paul Robeson Student Center, a guy sitting with his friends looked up, smiled, and complimented my outfit. I thanked him and kept walking, completely unaware that such a small moment would end up being so meaningful . Later on that day, I ran into his friend at an event outside the student center and casually mentioned that I thought Malcolm was cute. His friend didn’t waste any time; he texted Malcolm immediately. Malcolm was working in the student center that day, but as soon as he got the message, he came outside. When I saw him walking toward me, nerves got the best of me and I ran. Yes; I actually ran. Not long after, we exchanged numbers through a mutual friend and began talking. The conversations were easy and consistent. Spending time together felt natural, almost effortless. Before we knew it, we were doing life side by side; late-night talks, studying together, cooking meals, and learning each other in a way that felt steady, genuine, and real. What began as a brief interaction grew into a friendship, and eventually into a love shaped by patience, trust, and God’s perfect timing. Looking back now, it’s clear that God’s hand was in it all, gently guiding those early moments into the life we share today.
