Our Story: In April of 2010, we had a mutual friend who lived down the street from Rachel. She and her best friend Amanda were driving passed Malcolm visiting the mutual friend. For some unknown reason, Rachel made Amanda turn around and they are awkwardly introduced to him. Rachel remembers Malcolm being quiet, reserved, and seemed very uninterested in the whole encounter. About a week or so later, that same mutual friend got a tattoo. (This is dating us because she did not have picture messaging yet.) After a volleyball practice, Rachel went to her house to see the tattoo and she asked if Rachel could send a picture to her friend *insert Malcolm*. Having only met him once prior, the friend dared Rachel to strike up a conversation with him. She did, and Malcolm responded. They continued to get to know each other all summer long. Malcolm even came some of Rachel’s volleyball games in the fall. It wasn’t until Black Friday, on a double date to see Tangled, Rachel was informed by his friend, George, that she was officially Malcolm’s girlfriend. Regardless of how she found out, she was happy. Fast forward through the college years, apartment bouncing, career changes, and two fur babies (Nala and Jazmine).
The Proposal Rachel and Malcolm planned a trip to Houston to spend Thanksgiving with The Reardon’s and their newest, cutest addition, JPatrick. Their anniversary falls on Black Friday, so they decided to plan a mini anniversary getaway. They traveled to Galveston Beach with Aunt Sandy and Uncle John for the day. After a day well spend at the beach, watching the cargo ships going in and out of the harbor. They made their way to the Westin in Downtown Houston. It took a little longer than usual to check into the room, and Rachel noticed Malcolm getting antsy and sweating profusely. She kept asking if he was okay, and he reassured her he was. Eventually getting up to their room on the 15th floor, Rachel immediately FaceTimed Renee’ as Malcolm is running through the hotel room exploring (per usual). Rachel continued to show Renee’ around the room and the beautiful views. Malcolm began to play music on the speaker and disappeared into the bathroom (several times). Thinking little of it, she continued to talk to Renee’ and the whole family. She noticed he kept restarting the song and she couldn’t figure out why he wouldn't just let it play. Finally getting off the phone, Malcolm grabbed her hand and began dancing around the room. Towards the end of the song, “Let’s Get Married,” he got down on one knee and said a bunch of sweet things Rachel didn’t hear because she was in complete shock. Malcolm asked again, and of course Rachel said yes! They continued the celebration with dinner, drinks, and Wreck-It Ralph Breaks the Internet at an iPic theater in River Oaks.
