How We Met

Swipe to the Right...Swipe Right Again!

It all started in May 2016 with both of us hopelessly searching for love the old-fashioned way, on smartphone dating apps. We matched on Bumble and after Becca messaged first, we were off to the races. After about a week of messaging back and forth, we finally met up for our first official date on May 17, 2016 (hence our original wedding date - stupid COVID-19!). We met at the now defunct American Taproom in Willow Lawn for beers and the keyboard chemistry carried over to real life. We then had dinner at a nearby restaurant known for their noodles and then proceeded to trivia night at what would become our favorite local hangout, Jack Brown's Beer and Burger Joint. We dated for about a month and a half afterwards, but the timing wasn't perfect and we went our separate ways. A few months later, we would be brought back together by another match on Bumble and the rest is history. We officially put a label on it in January 2017 and eventually moved in together on Memorial Day Weekend 2018.

Our Engagement

March 22, 2019

It all started right after Becca's brother got married because Malcolm didn't want to overlap or overshadow his big day in any way. The Tuesday after said wedding, Malcolm walked into the jewelry store for a "fact-finding mission" and walked out with the ring ordered. Ten days later, Malcolm picked up the ring, and the rest of the planning commenced. While Becca was distracted by other friends on her favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day, Malcolm asked Becca's best friend's fiancé to help him out. The four of them have a group chat and Malcolm asked that Brandtin text the group chat asking to meet up at Legend Brewing for food and drinks the following Friday. The message got sent and Becca agreed to go, and even suggested walking, which was all a part of the plan. Several things could've derailed the plan, including Becca almost bailing to hang out with work friends instead, a rainy forecast, and Becca's refusal to put on anything other than gym clothes. Fortunately, Malcolm convinced Becca to change without much suspicion, though he feared asking her to put on make-up would be too obvious. The rain only lasted about 15 minutes and Becca agreed to wait it out and still walk. So they set out across the T. Tyler Potterfield Bridge and Becca was busy posting to her Instagram the beautiful scenery while the ring was burning a hole in Malcolm's pocket as it had been all week long. Finally, Malcolm stopped at the last alcove on the bridge and acted like he was reading a plaque. Becca, having no interest, continued taking pictures of the cityscape and river. By the time she turned around, Malcolm thanked her for changing clothes, told her he loved her, and got down on a knee to pop the big question. Becca's immediate response was "Is this a joke? Is this really happening?!" They both blacked out after that, but apparently she said yes and they proceeded across the bridge to meet up with eagerly waiting friends!
