How We Met

Though Matt & Alana’s story started at Boston College, it took them a few years to find each other. In 2010, when Matt & Alana started as freshmen at BC, the two were in dorms on completely different campuses. It was in that freshmen dorm where Matt met many of his closest friends, including Kim, who little did he know would go on to play a very important role. Unfortunately, Alana, being on a different campus, was a bus ride away and the two would not meet for a couple more years. In the summer of 2012, Alana was taking some summer classes at BC and living on campus. As luck would have it, Kim was also taking summer classes and BC Housing matched Alana and Kim as roommates. As the two were getting to know each other, they began to talk about their friends, sharing pictures and stories. Alana seemed to have a particular interest in Matt, but the two still had not yet met.....When school restarted in September, Kim invited Alana out with her friends, Matt included. Matt and Alana met and it seemed like there was something there, but the two just remained friendly (and maybe a little flirty). The school year continued, but still nothing. It wasn’t until senior year, one night at the local campus bar (Mary Ann’s, may she rest in peace) that sparks flew. Their romance progressed over senior year with dates at Giacomo's, Matt cheering Alana on at BC Softball games, and doing what the couple loves most, going to the movies.

The Proposal

It was their 5 year anniversary when Matt decided to pop the question. Matt and Alana were living together in Brooklyn during their rotations in medical school. For their anniversary, the couple wanted to make the most of NYC as they knew that they may not be living in the city much longer with residency only months away. Matt planned an extravagant day, as he always does, for their anniversary. He made reservations at a two-Michelin Star restaurant for lunch and purchased tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway. Alana was ecstatic as this involved her three favorite things; great food, Harry Potter and of course her amazing boyfriend. Little did she know Matt had more up his sleeve, or should I say in his coat pocket. It was almost midnight when the couple returned from their date. On the way up to their apartment, Matt suggested the couple go up to the roof to look at the city skyline. It was in this moment when Alana had a suspicion something more was happening. As they looked at the beautiful view and bright city lights, Matt got down on one knee and proposed. Alana, of course said yes, and the rest is history!
