We first met through mutual friends during the Mayors Cup Regatta at the end of summer 2017. Pete was taken at the time, and I headed back to school after the weekend. The following May, I was out sunbathing on Black Sheep when Pete—coaching at BYC—pulled up in his coach boat, clearly excited to see me again. He invited me out to help coach, but I told him I was enjoying some “Tori Time.” After that, we kept crossing paths around the club: a quick wave, a short chat, little moments between races. One Wednesday, when racing was canceled, I invited Pete to hang out on Black Sheep. That one summer night slowly turned into many more.
