It was the summer before their senior year of high school. Sophia was at Centreville, Matthew at Westfield. Apparently their SAT scores were slacking because both their parents had enrolled them at T&B SAT Prep. One day, after class had already begun, Matthew strolled in late. Sophia looked up from her work and found herself staring at a tall-ish boy with an oily forehead and a buzzed haircut. To this day, she's not really sure what she was so fascinated by. And so their friendship began and eventually Sophia grew feelings for Matthew but he never felt the same, so she moved on. They graduated from high school; Sophia went to VCU and Matt went to VT. Matthew would visit VCU often since his brother was also a student there. Though they tried to keep their friendship strong, life happened and they lost touch, even when Sophia transferred to VT after her freshman year. Fast forward to Spring 2014, their last semester of college. Through mutual friends, they rekindled their friendship. After years of not seeing each other, they reunited at TOTS in Downtown Blacksburg and enjoyed late-night drunchies at Jimmy Johns. Sophia, again, fell for Matthew during the summer after graduation, and though she was sure he felt the same way, one night after home-made burgers and too much soju, he told her they would never be together. They remained good friends but yet again, lost touch and went separate ways. Sophia eventually blocked Matthew on almost every social media platform, wanting to prevent any possibility of false hope. But she forgot to block him on Twitter - and on February 7th, 2019, Matthew sent her a Twitter DM. After hours of contemplating whether or not to go down that road again, she replied. A few days later, they were at Top Golf with friends. A week later, they were on their first date at Clifton Cafe. And a little over a year later, she said yes!
