On June 29, 2018, country singer Sam Hunt unknowingly became our matchmaker. The funny part? One of us would’ve gladly skipped the country tunes. Makiem, not a fan of country music, was convinced into tagging along with friends - mainly for the pre-game festivities. Shatsada, however, came with her friend and cousins, ready to sing her heart out to Sam Hunt’s songs Body Like a Back Road and House Party. Fate stepped in somewhere between the music, the crowd, and the laughter. Our eyes met, a quick conversation followed, and information was exchanged. Then.. life went on. It wasn’t until late 2020 that we reconnected, and had our first date at Viron Rondo’s. On January 3, 2021, Makiem officially asked Shatsada to be his girlfriend. Under the soft June 8th sun at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, CT, Makiem knelt down on one knee and asked Shatsada to be his forever. With roses in full bloom and love in the air, Shatsada said “yes” with her whole heart. And as they say, the rest is history - a lifetime of love, laughter, and shared dreams was just beginning.
