Beech Mountain 5506' Skybar
While the slopes will be closed for the winter season, Beech Mountain resort offers scenic lift rides to the top of the mountain (and 5506' bar!) in the spring.
Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster
This is a mountain coaster that winds through the woods with sharp turns and fast drops. You control the speed, so it’s as laid-back or adventurous as you want. Open year-round and fun for all ages.
Rough Ridge Lookout - Grandfather Mountain, NC.
This hike is an App State staple and has some of the best views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is assessable from the Blue Ridge Parkway and is an easy 0.8 mile hike to the top.
Grandfather Mountain State Park
A great spot for views, short hikes, and the famous Mile-High Swinging Bridge, a 228-foot suspension bridge over the mountain gap. It’s a great half-day trip with overlooks, wildlife, and a nature museum.
Eagles Nest Winery
One of our favorite spots in Banner Elk! Eagles Nest Winery has gorgeous views, great wine, and a cozy barn style tasting room. Grab a charcuterie board and enjoy the fire pits or live music on the patio.

A cute winery tucked along the Watauga River with great views and an easygoing vibe- perfect for an afternoon glass or tasting flight.
