In June of 2017, we both attended a conservative, political conference in Washington, DC. On the first night we met through a mutual friend, made small talk, and followed each other on social media. The following December we had a similar encounter at another conference in West Palm Beach, Florida. Almost an entire year went by until August of 2018 when we began to message over social media. We had casually texted previously, but this time the conversation never stopped. The first night we FaceTimed, we talked for over six hours! Starting in October, we began flying back and forth once a month from Texas to North Carolina to see each other. The great distance was reduced to 4 hours in January once we finally lived in the same state. In April, I was given the opportunity to intern on Capitol Hill for a U.S. Congressman in Washington, DC. David came to visit during Recess which meant a tour of the Capitol and access to both the Speaker's Balcony and House Chamber floor. Upon arrival in the House Chamber, David walked us up the aisle where all U.S. Presidents enter to give the State of the Union address. Once at the doors, looking around at the beautiful American flag and "One Nation Under God" motto, surrounded by breathtaking history, in the city that we had met two years prior, David got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Obviously, I said yes! We are looking forward to celebrating with all those who have supported us throughout the development of our relationship.
