MaKayla and Wesley first met each other through social media. They had conversations back and forth before finally deciding to hang out. Their first hang out was at MaKayla's college campus, William Jewell College; they watched Criminal Minds and bonded over their shared interest in Netflix shows. After trips to tractor pulls, the movie theater, bowling alleys, and railroad tracks, Wesley asked MaKayla to be his girlfriend on September 2, 2015. She, obviously, said yes.

To say that MaKayla and Wesley were inseparable would be an understatement. Not only were they boyfriend and girlfriend, but they quickly became each other’s best friends. Between meeting each other’s families and exploring their passions together, MaKayla and Wesley grew closer as a couple. In April 2016, they decided to expand their family and adopted Bear from KC Pet Project. Bear settled right in and they knew he was the perfect fit for them. From learning how to raise a dog together, to road trips, to more family gatherings, MaKayla and Wesley began to learn what it was like to share a future with someone. With the love they had for each other and Bear, they decided to expand the family once more in May 2017. Otter was adopted from Unleashed Pet Rescue and stole everyone’s hearts, including Bear’s. Bear and Otter developed a bond like no other and while Otter is often too feisty for Bear’s liking, he puts up with her because he knows she’s family. This is similar to the relationship Wesley and MaKayla have. They say dogs often look like their owners; in MaKayla and Wesley’s case, their dogs frequently act like their owners. In late 2017, MaKayla was getting ready for her last semester of college and Wesley decided to pursue more education. Wesley moved to Phoenix, Arizona to obtain his certification in motorcycle mechanics. While this meant being apart from his family for a whole year, MaKayla and Wesley knew their relationship could handle it. They saw each other three times in that year in which they experienced some major life changing things – including getting engaged! In March 2018, Wesley proposed to MaKayla and, just like when he asked her to be his girlfriend, she obviously said yes. A couple months later, MaKayla graduated college and moved six hours away from home to teach high school mathematics. Wesley moved back with her and the dogs at the end of the year and they excitedly began planning the rest of their lives together.

MaKayla and Wesley are currently living in Lenexa, Kansas and love being back home and closer to family. MaKayla works at a door and dock company detailing national projects where she hopes to move up in the company and possibly into another department in the future. Wesley works at Shawnee Mission Ford as a sales associate and hopes to make the transfer into management or finances later down the road. After celebrating their marriage and getting a tan on their honeymoon, MaKayla and Wesley hope to continue working and saving for the future so they can expand their family some more. Both 2 legged and 4 legged members are in the works.
