Mikey and I actually knew of each other as kids because we lived in the same neighborhood! He told me a story about how I had caught his attention when we were young. While we were in grade school, both of us liked the video game series Pokémon. He noticed on the school bus one day that I had a device used for these games. He thought “wow, I didn’t know girls liked Pokémon!” However, he was too nervous to say anything to me so we never spoke officially until our best friends properly introduced us years later!

In September of 2023, Mikey and I went to Hocking Hills Ohio. We wanted to get away from the stress of work and every day life. Hocking Hills is known for being a relaxing spot for such a trip. On the second to last day, we planned to go on a hike. It was a long trek in hot weather with some tricky spots to get through. But we eventually made it to an area known as Whispering Cave. It’s a beautiful location and we had brought Mikey’s nice camera to take pictures. He asked me to get some shots of the area while he tied his shoe. I do as I’m asked, and when I turn around, Mikey is on one knee with a ring in his hand. He popped the question and I said yes!
