Heading into my freshman year of high school, I joined the marching band and went to the first practice summer of 2017. Luke and I both played the saxophone so naturally we were in the same section. At first we didn’t talk much but eventually the ice was melted and I was shortly attracted to his quick wit, humor, and it didn’t hurt that he was also a football player. During the marching band season of 2018, we started texting casually however the conversations were short and I was often the one carrying them. After several long months of texting and receiving one word responses or no response at all, Luke finally came around and started talking to me more. One night we made a bet, which I lost, and resulted in me buying him a Wendy’s frosty. At Wendy’s Luke confessed he had been crushing on me too and that became our first date on June 3rd, 2019.
On June 3rd, 2022, we were celebrating our 3 year anniversary of dating. We had planned to go fishing but the weather was stormy with rain and thunderstorms so we decided to go for lunch and then a quick hike around Fox Run Park. After hiking deep into the woods, we stopped to catch our breath and I gave Luke a small hug and noticed his heart was pumping a million miles a minute. I asked if he was okay and he responded that he’s just worn out from the hike. Turns out it was nerves because minutes later he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him and of course I said “YES!” I was in complete shock because the entire day Luke kept joking about how it was going to be another 50 years before we would get married. It was quite the surprise!
