How We Met

Perseverance Pays Off

How We Met Our story technically started with Makala’s bold “hello.” The funny part? Milton… didn’t acknowledge her. (Don’t worry — he’s been making up for it ever since.) But God has a way of bringing the right people back around. A little while later, we crossed paths again during a worship band training process. This time, Milton noticed — and Makala acted like she totally wasn’t impressed. From there, Makala pulled off one of her greatest accomplishments: convincing Milton to join the young adults group (he is very much a "homebody"). Once he showed up, everything began to unfold naturally. We started hanging out more, playing volleyball with friends, serving together at Halloween block party events, and somewhere in all the fun and chaos… we started liking each other. What began as a missed hello turned into a connection built through shared faith, inside jokes, teamwork, and a whole lot of quality time. Now, looking back, we’re grateful for every step — the awkward, the funny, the unexpected, and the sweet — because each moment brought us closer to the love we have today.

Our First "Date" (?)

Burger King Isn't That Romantic...

Our First (Technical) Date Our first real date wasn’t fancy — it was perfectly us. We met at Joe Pine’s, grabbed some drinks, and decided to play cards. That’s when Milton discovered something important: Makala is extremely competitive. At one point, she got so into the game that we’re pretty sure the table almost didn’t survive. After that, we wandered around downtown, including a walk through Milton’s old job and an unintentionally awkward stop at the bank (because why not make a financial errand part of a romantic evening?). Then we headed to Burger King for the most gourmet meal imaginable. To top it off, Milton cracked some of the worst, most awkward jokes ever told on a date. And somehow… Makala still stayed. That’s when he knew he was in trouble in the best way. It wasn’t smooth, it wasn’t perfectly planned — but it was honest, fun, imperfectly charming, and absolutely unforgettable. Easily a 10/10.
