How we metHow we met

A Pandemic Love Story

Fear, Change, Chaos, Grief. Just a few words that can describe the year 2020, but somehow Major and Jazmyn found their way to each other in the middle of it all. It was an unlikely meeting for an unlikely pair. A traditionally COGIC girl from the suburbs and an Eastside Baptist musician met at a worship night on an unusually warm day in February. He spoke, she ignored him, he was in awe of her beauty, she was completely oblivious to his existence (as all great love stories begin). He couldn't get her attention that night, so he tried again the next day by sliding in her DM’s. She did what any young woman would do when a handsome man shows up in her messages…..She screenshot it and sent it to her friends. Initial conversation went very well. She admired his jokes and his intentionality, because for Jazmyn there is nothing worse than having to ask the question “what are we doing here?”. After finally getting her number, Major asked her out. Bowling. Before their first date, Major may have considered himself a pretty good bowler. He showed up with his own ball, shoes and bowling bag, but unfortunately for him Jazmyn showed up with wits and beauty. She miraculously beat him in their first game which, needless to say, gave her the freedom to start the trash talk, which has not stopped to this day. Unfortunately for the pair, the very next day an executive order was put into place restricting all non essential activities due to the coronavirus. Over the years, it has been debated on what would have happened to the couple if life continued as normal. Would they continue to date? Would they inevitably get too busy and conversations fizzle out? Or would Jazmyn just simply cut him off due to his lack of bowling abilities? No one knows. But, what we do know for sure is that Major kept calling and Jazmyn kept answering the phone. He helped her through her grief and she helped him through his isolation. They laughed, fell in love and realized that their “unlikely” pairing was more than perfect after all. From that unusually warm day in February to this beautiful day in April the two have come to understand that this imperfectly perfect love story was inevitable.
