Casey and Mahlia first crossed paths during their freshman year of high school at a mutual friend’s “back-to-school” summer house party. Though they attended different schools, their friend groups quickly blended, and over the next four years, they grew closer and closer. Throughout high school, Casey and Mahlia were “just friends” — at least that’s what they told everyone, including themselves. But it was obvious to everyone around them that there was something more. They went to a few dances together, but also with other dates at times, making things a little…complicated. It wasn’t until senior prom that the truth finally came out. Even though they arrived with different dates, Casey and Mahlia ended up spending the entire night — and the next day — together, finally admitting the feelings they had both been holding back. From that moment on, they were inseparable, rarely going a day without seeing each other. The official start of their love story came during their senior trip in Cabo, Mexico. Surrounded by their closest friends and the excitement of graduation, Casey asked Mahlia to be his girlfriend. She said yes, and their forever truly began.

Casey proposed to Mahlia on their annual camping trip to Catalina Island — a tradition they share each year with their closest friends. Months before the trip, he began planning the proposal in secret with one of Mahlia’s best friends and bridesmaids, Jewel Hornbeek. While away at college, Jewel helped gather every detail needed to bring Casey’s vision to life and make the moment everything Mahlia had ever dreamed of. As the trip approached, the excitement (and nerves) grew — because every one of the 10–15 friends on the island knew what was coming… except Mahlia. Everyone was casually told to bring a nice outfit for photos, and Mahlia didn’t think twice about it. On the day of the proposal, the girls were getting ready while Casey slipped away to set everything up near the boat dock. Once everyone was ready, the group headed down to what Mahlia thought was just another photo spot. As she turned the corner of the hill, her jaw dropped and tears immediately filled her eyes. Standing there was Casey, surrounded by thoughtful details and letters spelling out “Marry Me.” But the surprises didn’t end there. After she said yes, Mahlia turned around to see both of their families waiting to celebrate with them — a moment Casey had carefully planned to make the day even more meaningful. It was truly unforgettable. The celebration continued back at the campsite with champagne, shots, and a “Just Engaged” banner lovingly made by another one of Mahlia’s best friends and bridesmaids, Jayden Hornbeek. Casey couldn’t have curated a more perfect moment — surrounded by the people, love, and memories that mean the most to Mahlia.
