The Filipino pronunciation is: mag - SEE - pok The American pronunciation is: MAG - see - pok Either pronunciation is great. It is easy to flip the letters S and I, so that the pronunciation becomes MA - gis - pok. We've even heard "Magic sparkles". We'll take your best attempt, we love you all the same!
We want to celebrate this new chapter of our lives with as many friends and family members as possible, keeping safety in mind! We plan to have a "minimony" (small ceremony with our families) in the fall and, in lieu of a traditional reception, several mini celebrations with friends!
"So, you read 24 books last year?" This was the start of a beautiful friendship. On lockdown during the pandemic, our journey to love began virtually. John was swiping through Coffee Meets Bagel one day when he came across a profile of the cutest girl with the vaguest description. 'Gosh, what could I possibly say to start a conversation that doesn't sound robotic,' John thought. 'The app mentioned that she loves to read, so let's go with that.' We messaged back and forth all day, every day, for a few weeks when finally Kristine (because John just wasn’t getting the hint) pulled the trigger and said, “Want to Zoom?” We talked for three and a half hours about the state of the world (the pandemic, the 2020 election, BLM), marathons and Pelotons, faith journeys, relationships, and more! As far as first dates go, this was one for the books.
We decided to meet in Austin over Labor Day weekend to play tennis. But the nets were down, and so we settled for a long walk through the park. We talked about everything that day—our fears, our hopes and dreams, our commitment to friends and family, and our desire to continue growing in our faith. We realized how aligned we were in our values and how much we wanted the same things in life. Our day was flying by, and we didn’t want it to end. So we picked up P. Terry’s (a shared favorite) and watched Naomi Osaka play in the US Open. While we didn’t get to play ourselves, watching tennis together felt fitting, since every match starts with LOVE. Cheesy, and we know it!
We love the cliché: spending time with family and friends, cooking, and travel. We also love: Peloton classes, long walks, tennis, The Daily, Bible Recap, exploring new grocery stores, food crawls, taking full advantage of loyalty programs, and watching West Wing! PS, thanks for getting this far and reading this! :)
