June 13th was my last last day of teaching before summer break. I got home, completely exhausted and probably sweaty, to find Tui already there. He suggested we go to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate the end of the school year. Tui then asked if I "was going to wear that?” meaning what I wore to work. I rolled my eyes, "Of course I am." Why did it matter anyway? After Tui downed a few Manhattans and we ate some delicious pizza, I wanted to go shopping. Hello, I was on summer break! I tried to convince Tui that him walking around while I shopped was a great idea. He was unimpressed. The Warriors were playing in The Finals. It was Game 6. I agreed to leave the store. On the way home Tui suggested we stop at The Rose Garden. Weird. I probably should have known something was up, but I was bascially a zombie. Did I mention I was just finishing the school year and that I was exhausted? Whoops, I digress. We walked around, literally smelling the roses. At some point, Tui took a knee and tried to propose. Per usual, I wouldn’t stop talking. He “gently” reminded me that if I wanted to wear the beautiful ring he'd bought me, I’d need to stop babbling. Eventually he said the words “Will you marry me?” I genuinely don’t remember what happened after that. All I know is that the whole thing was perfectly us. (We won’t mention what happened with Game 6.) -Erin
Erin and I 'met' through an undisclosed technological application while I was in graduate school and she was in the early stages of her teaching career. Our first date was at a bar in downtown Campbell, where we bonded over being washed-up college athletes and wondering what we wanted to accomplish in our careers. At the time, I was living with coworkers in a run-down shack and she was paying Bay Area rent solo. Naturally, after about 6 months of dating and me preparing for the grind of an upcoming football season, I moved in. Fast forward about 4 years later, and here we are. -Tui
