Sunset Boulevard
There are many hotels right next to Houdini Estate on Sunset Blvd. Just be prepared to spend a little more per night (The Pendry, for example, is around $500 a night).

This hotel is a partner hotel of Universal Studios. It is in North Hollywood, only a 15minute drive to Houdini Estate. You can use both airports to get there and they offer shuttles. Reasonably priced at around $270 a night, and they have specials for Universal!

Sonesta Hotel and Resort is beautiful, looking at around $350 a night. Close by our apartment, too.
