Nick & Maggy met through a mutual friend, John Henry, while Maggy was finishing up her undergraduate degree at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA, and Nick was living and working in St. Paul, MN. Some of the Bride & Groom's best memories were made during weekends spent in Minnesota, but the long distance only lasted a few months before Nick moved back to Iowa.

The couple got engaged at Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the midst of a weekend of traveling just a day before Maggy started law school. Nick pulled off a total surprise, complete with ring shopping in Waukon with Maggy's sister, Matteson, and making sure her nails were done thanks to Nick's mom, Kory.
