How We Met

January 12, 2025

We met on a Christian dating app called Ark during a season when we were both just about ready to give up on online dating. After too many fake profiles and conversations that went nowhere, we were both tired of searching for “the one.” Then came the “Gold Note.” He decided to send one to get her attention and opened with a greeting in Korean. Since her profile mentioned she grew up in Germany, he followed it with, “…I grew up in America — boring, I know.” It certainly stood out. Naturally, she asked if he spoke Korean. He does not. It may not have been the smoothest introduction, but it was memorable — and it worked. What started with mild confusion quickly turned into easy conversation, shared laughter, and the realization that we were both a little goofy in the best way. As we kept talking, we discovered something even more important: a shared faith, genuine intentions, and a desire for something real. Beneath the playful opening line is a man who is thoughtful, steady, and incredibly caring — the kind of person who stays calm when others might get frustrated and who brings peace in the middle of chaos. Somewhere between long conversations and stories about fishing trips, she realized she had found someone special. We almost missed each other because we were both exhausted from searching. But God’s timing proved better than ours. What could have been just another message became something lasting. Turns out, sometimes all it takes is a bold “Gold Note” — and a Korean greeting you don’t actually speak — to find the love you’ve been praying for.
