When In Rome

There's something life-changing about backpacking through Europe - at least there was for us! In 2014, we both set off from two far-flung corners of the globe to end up staying in the same bare-bones hostel in Rome. We were lucky to find each other one late morning, Maggie & McKenzie Miller having arrived late from Paris the night before and Sam & Campbell MacDonald having blown in from a late night at the discoteca, stopping for a swim in a 400 year old fountain. After a fun night out together over pizza and lots of drinks in Rome's Trastavere, it turned out we were all traveling to Florence together the next day. Maggie & Sam planned to meet up a few weeks later in Prague, where undeniable sparks flew. After parting ways in Europe, Sam invited Maggie to reunite in Australia, the start of 7+ years of adventures together around the world.

Love Locked Down

Turns out it's not all plane tickets and passport stamps, being from two different countries! We faced so many unexpected challenges in our quest to make a life together. After a long wait for a work visa, Maggie finally made the move to Sydney in 2019, months before the pandemic hit. After many years of long-distance, we spent the better part of 18 months in lockdown together. We often joke, "Be careful what you wish for!" Unbeknownst to Maggie, Sam had been planning since late 2019 to propose, but his plans kept getting thwarted by Covid. On the 2-year anniversary of Maggie's arrival in Australia, on a rainy Saturday at the start of Sydney's long lockdown, Sam 'scuffed his knee' on the cliffs at Bronte, our neighbourhood beach!
