When Matt transferred into GEHS for junior year, he landed in Maggie's homeroom (Shoutout Mr. Allder!). After a senior year of physics and AP government together, and Matt's surprisingly effective suggestion of simply wrapping a pumpkin in toilet paper before dropping it off the bleachers for The Pumpkin Drop, we graduated high school as friends and went our separate ways for college. We stayed in touch throughout the years, exchanging poems for workshopping and somewhat oddly both living in Fredericksburg, VA at different times. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Matt's job went remote and he moved back to Greenbrier County to help manage the family farm and continue work on his 100+ year old farmhouse. Maggie was living in Richmond, VA at the time and at the end of her first year of PT school, after Matt sent a care package with homemade maple syrup, a few other WV themed odds and ends, and a letter detailing spring in the valley, Maggie stopped by the farm her next visit home. After a few more casual hangs, including Matt coming to the Karrs household to meet Maggie and (maid of honor) Melissa at the end of a cross country drive from Los Angeles to WV, feelings were confessed on both sides, and the rest is history <3.
The day after our second anniversary, we had plans to go hiking in Pocahontas county. After a beautiful 3 mile hike on the High Rocks trail in the Cranberry Wilderness, Matt suggested we stop by one of our other favorite spots, Falls of Hills Creek. At the Middle Falls, Matt claimed to see an Indigo Bunting on the cliffside (a bird Maggie had been trying to catch a glimpse of all spring). Maggie turned around, binoculars in hand, and Matt went down on one knee. We're excited to celebrate our love with everyone we love! See you all in June on the farm!
