Best city in the world and I’m not biased at all!! Take either Elizabeth Line or Heathrow Express from the airport to the city - 20 minutes. Too much faff or luggage? - get a black cab! London to Bristol is easy by train from Paddington station after you stay in London.
There is a choice of daily flights between Dublin and Bristol. Both Aer Lingus and RyanAir offer flights. Flight is cheap and takes one hour.
Easyjet has three flights a day between Bristol and Edinburgh - cheap and takes an hour.
Clifton is an elegant Georgian village within a city. It has bars, restaurants, cafes, independent shops and the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge! From the village you can walk across the bridge, visit Ashton Court Manor and grounds, and the Clifton Downs. There are lots of great restaurants but The Ivy is well known. I can also recommend the restaurant at the Avon Gorge Hotel. Try the Albion or Somerset House in the center of Clifton - also the Portculus if you are a small group! The Clifton Sausage is a favourite and worth a visit! Twenty minute downhill walk from Clifton takes you to Bristol Cathedral. It’s over 800 years old and even has a coffee shop! It’s right next to the harbour which is great to stroll round and get lunch. Brunel’s SS Great Britain is there and well worth a visit.
Those of us from Bristol - really just my family and I - get a little miffed by the attention that Bath gets! Really, it’s just jealousy. Bath is amazing and well worth a day’s visit. The Roman Baths are incredible as is Bath Abby and they are almost next door - geographically as they are separated by over a millennium! After the Abbey wander the old streets, famous Georgian Crescent, and maybe shop a bit. There are lots of guided tours on-line or you can follow a self-guided walking tour. Either way, Bath is incredible. You can get a train from Bristol Temple Meads or a bus from the bus station. However, it's also a 30-minute Uber ride and then it’s door to door!
There are organised tours from Bristol to Oxford and the Cotswolds, or Stonehenge and the Cotswolds. I’m sure there are other ways to see these places, including a private driver for a day! Personally, I don’t love Stonehenge - give me a few hours in Oxford any day!
Trains are expensive in England compared to the shuttle airlines. We are messed up like that! Bristol Airport is small and very easy to navigate. 20-minute Uber or taxi to/from Clifton. Bristol airport also flies to many places in Europe. Please reach out if you need any help with what might be feasible and the best way to do it. Jacky Hallam: 610 213 5919
