Although we’re both from Minnesota, it took a move to New York City for us to meet. We first matched on OKCupid in 2014 but the timing just wasn’t right and we both moved on after a couple of exchanged messages. In the spring of 2016, we each decided to try a relatively new dating app called Bumble. We matched within our first week on the app and Maggie casually asked Craig if he recognized her (he didn’t). After several witty exchanges, we decided to meet in person. A rare evening work shift for Craig pushed back our first date to April 1 (yes, our first date was on April Fool’s Day) at Whitman’s in the East Village of New York City. We playfully “raced” each other to the restaurant but took our sweet time with the date, which came in at a whopping six hours in length. In the years since, we’ve experienced countless adventures (and ballgames) together. Living through a global pandemic while living in such close quarters ultimately helped us realize that we were ready for the next step in our relationship. On August 21 of last year, Craig finally popped the question on the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis and Maggie emphatically said yes.
