While playing on opposing teams during co-ed softball, Maggie was asked to be a fill in on Ashley’s team because they were short a player. They both proceeded to stand next to each other at the fence until Maggie introduced herself. Ashley responded to Maggie’s introduction by saying: “Hi, I'm Sparky.” Maggie turned and said “Well, I refuse to call you that, so what is your real name?” That was all it took, and here we are 8 years later.

Ashley had a grand scheme to cook a romantic, outdoor, candlelit steak dinner one Saturday night in May, but it was the most rain we had seen in a single day all year. SO much rain. It changed everything she had in mind. The plan then pivoted into Sunday morning. Naturally, Ashley woke up first and the prep work began. As we all know, she installed a beautiful patio a couple years prior and she knew that was where it had to happen because indoors was never an option. While Maggie was sleeping in, Ashley set up the patio with photos, (indoor) plants, candles, blankets, and a bottle of champagne. When Maggie woke up, Ashley brought her a cup of coffee and breakfast over to the couch (out of the norm, she’s not always that nice). After sharing breakfast, Ashley suggested they go outside as it was FINALLY a beautiful sunny day. Shockingly, Maggie agreed and as they walked outside to the patio Ashley played 'You' by Dan and Shay, one of Maggie's favorite songs. After Maggie questioned why the patio was all decorated and there was champagne on the table (of course she noticed that first), they both sat down and listened to the music. Ashley grabbed the ring box from the photo table and fumbled around trying to figure out how to open it. After she figured it out, she asked the one and only question. There were some tears, but way more laughter.
