The Willie Walsh Nature Trail is a half-mile trek (roundtrip) through one of Sauk County's most scenic oak savannas. The trail honors the Walsh family as well as all the families who sold their properties to make White Mound County Park possible.
The lake has loads of panfish and bass! We will dig up more information regarding Kayak/Paddleboard rental for anyone who might enjoy that! We will also bring our kayaks and most likely have an extra pole or 2!
If weather permits the stars at white mound are pretty visible due to low light pollution!
There are lots of trails, the only complaint i think we've had is the confusion of the trail maps but the trails are there and they are beautiful! You just might have to channel your inner adventurer if the map doesn't make sense!
In the vestibule at white mound you'll find a very cool 3d map of the park on the wall as well as a coat rack with hammocks and other free to borrow equipment. It is first come first serve. If you get really lucky you may find the backpack containing binoculars, bug catching/investigating equipment, first aid kit, and other interesting outdoorsy tools! There are multiple spots around the park where you can find hammock posts, made for you to set up a hammock and relax!
One thing we highly suggest is to take this weekend to find some peace and quiet! Life gets crazy and stressful and taking care of your mind and body is important. The Blue Space Effect - Being near water activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes a state of relaxation and helps lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. -The gentle, non-overstimulating sensory input of a lake (soft sounds, visual openness) triggers a state of "soft fascination" that allows the mind to wander, fostering improved cognitive function, attention, and creativity. -The calming effects of the natural environment, combined with the fresh air and increased outdoor activity, can help regulate sleep patterns, leading to deeper and more restorative sleep. - Encourages Mindfulness, Gazing at the water or listening to the natural sounds helps anchor you in the present moment, offering an escape from daily routines and intrusive thoughts.
