Bill and Maggie met for the first time at a volleyball game at Keva Sports Center in Middleton, WI. Maggie was late (as usual) and she ran in looking for her new teammates. They hit it off right away, trading jokes and sets back and forth. It took some time before things moved past being teammates though - it was almost a year after that first game that Maggie and Bill went on their first date!

Towards the end of an amazing vacation in Puerto Rico in January of 2019, Bill and Maggie had a day of hiking planned. They went to El Yunque National Forest and decided to hike up to El Yunque peak, one of the highest points in Puerto Rico. It was a tough but beautiful hike, with amazing views of the rainforest and the coastline. When they reached the top, the view wasn't quite what they expected since it was completely obscured by clouds. As they hiked back down the mountain, the sun came back out. There was a close call when Maggie slipped and fell close to the edge of the trail - from then on Bill hiked behind Maggie so he could keep an eye on her! Not long after, they stopped to take pictures at a beautiful spot on the trail, and Bill asked Maggie if he could ask her a question. He got down on one knee, pulled a beautiful diamond ring out of his pocket that was sparkling like crazy in the sun, and asked Maggie to marry him. Of course she started crying immediately but somehow managed to keep from falling off the mountain, and she said yes! The rest of the hike down the mountain felt like floating...
