THE PROPOSAL

1.18.19

This could be a very long story, because Anthony and I love to talk and write - but here is the short and sweet version: Anthony's parents were visiting us in Memphis. While I was thrilled to see them, I wasn't expecting that the trip would end up being quite so life-changing. So, the first night they were in town, we went to get drinks at one of our favorite happy hour spots. Two of my best friends, Summer and Matt, were there as well. Throughout the happy hour I kept asking Anthony, "What's wrong with you? Why are you acting so weird?" When I would leave the table to go to the bathroom, everyone would breathe a sigh of relief that I hadn't yet figured out that Anthony was proposing later that night. We leave happy hour, and Anthony suggests we take his parents to the riverfront to see the lights on the bridge. This is a pretty long walk from where we lived. I suggested we not walk, and see the lights from a rooftop bar instead. Anthony INSISTED we see these dang lights. So, we wander down to the river, where all of the sudden I see my Dad, who says "Hey, Maggs!" as if nothing is weird about this encounter at all. I realize almost everyone else I love in the world is standing behind him. I turn around to see Anthony's reaction to this crazy coincidence, and he is knelt down on his right knee, holding up a ring. This was the culmination of months and months of planning/my mother keeping the greatest secret of her life. I was so surprised. I think I managed to squeak out a "yes" amidst all of my tears of joy. We hugged all of our friends and family, took a lot of beautiful photos, and then headed to an engagement party at one of our favorite restaurants - there was already a room full of our friends when we got there! We felt so loved that night (and still do). We can't wait to continue the celebration with all of you at our wedding.
