Thank you for visiting our wedding website! We are so excited to celebrate with you in picturesque Charlottesville, Virginia! This area is so special to us - you can find us there often - and we love to take our family, friends and Millie to enjoy the wineries, visit the historical sites, and take in beautiful landscape - but we love it most for the wine! We hope you fall in love with what we consider "quintessential Virginia" over our wedding weekend. As they say, "Virginia is for Lovers" and this is where our love story begins.
We met at our favorite neighborhood bar, Curbside Cafe in Richmond, Virginia on October 7th, 2011. We were sitting back-to-back at the bar and after many failed attempts by Maggie to get Stephen's attention, her friend grabbed his flip phone (the last man on Earth to own a flip phone!) - he turned around, they started to talk and he plugged her number into that flip phone. Maggie's friend took a candid photo of this first meeting (see Photo Gallery). The next day, Maggie got a text from Stephen asking to meet at Hometeam Grill, the local sports bar, to watch our college football teams play their rivals (Tech vs. Miami and LSU vs. UF). Maggie, who had already planned to meet her friends at Hometeam and did not want to give away her excitement, waited an hour before the game to agree to the date. Nervous, they both arrived on time but Maggie hid in a booth for 45 minutes while Stephen stood alone at the bar looking for her. Finally, Maggie waved him over and Stephen spent our first date watching football surrounded by her girlfriends.
On Saturday morning, Stephen suggested going to brunch at our favorite spot, Lunch and Supper. Midway through brunch, Stephen snuck away to call Maggie's sister, Cristina, to say "the plan is still on". When we got home, Stephen took our dog, Millie, outside and snuck the ring into her little grey winter coat pocket. When Stephen returned, Maggie picked Millie up for those infamous "kisses". Stephen, nervous that Maggie would feel the ring, said, "I have a plan for us today. If you're interested, open Millie's pocket." Shocked and still holding the dog, Maggie responds "What?" Stephen said, "Look in the pocket." Maggie froze, so Stephen got on one knee, opened the pocket for her and popped the question. Hugging each other Stephen asked, "Is that a yes?" Maggie responded "Yes!". Stephen shared that the the plan was spend the day in Charlottesville and go to Pippin Hill winery to celebrate with family. Maggie asked through tears, "Will my mom and sister be there too?!" Stephen replied, "Well, I wanted it to be a surprise, but I don't want to break your heart, yes, they are on their way now, from DC, so go get ready!" We had a wonderful day sipping wine and champagne with our families looking over the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains. That evening, we went to Maggie's co-workers tacky sweater party where she surprised all of her work friends with the big news. We ended the evening, where it all began, at Curbside Cafe - but this time we were surrounded by our friends celebrating the start to our married life together.
