How We Met

February 18, 2015

I met Maeve my freshman year at CU while coaching Powder Puff football. I walked up to our first practice and saw a stunning brunette throw a perfect spiral 40 yards down the field. I was hooked... Her first impression of me did not go as planned. Maeve asked me how she can be better at quarterback and my only answer was, "bounce around and look athletic". She looked at me like I was an idiot and I have no doubt she thought I was not meant to be on the field. After my initial face plant, I got to see that beyond beauty Maeve was funny, smart, and always ready with a witty comeback. I got to spend 9 months falling in love with Maeve before asking her out, and yes I say falling in love because I told her exactly how I felt two weeks into our relationship. As we spend Sundays watching RedZone, I can't help thinking about how we met and how it was the perfect foreshadowing to some of the hobbies we'd share in our relationship! -Sam Lehman

The Proposal

October 7, 2022

Surprising Maeve is always a challenge. Adding a healthy amount of nerves did not help when I tried to do just that on October 7th. I always knew that I wanted our engagement to be a private moment between the two of us. My favorite memories are when Maeve and I are spending time with each other, and that's how I wanted to ask her to spend her life with me. When Maeve left our apartment that day, I had 90 minutes to transform our home into something special. What started as our living room became a private haven illuminated by a hundred candles and filled with a sea of rose peddles. I don't get nervous very often, but when Maeve walked through the door and I took her hands, I couldn't stop shaking. I told my best friend that I've gotten to love her for 7 years, and I want to love her forever. There was a lot more I got to share, but the most important thing is that I got to kiss her when she said yes! It was the happiest moment of my life. The next moment I swept her away to the Four Seasons in Vail where Maeve and I got to spend two days enjoying our new engagement! There was champagne, deserts, and lots of calls from family and friends. It was important for us to have the time to celebrate together and I'll always remember it. Proposing to Maeve was the most fun, exciting, nerve wracking thing I've ever done. I'm so happy that we now get to celebrate the next step with all of you! -Sam Lehman
