One of Maeve’s favorite activities growing up was a run or a bike ride on the Chicago lakefront and this is an activity Alex has now grown to love through all the Chicago trips over the years. With a trail that runs 18.5 miles down the coast of Chicago, we recommend parking at either Montrose or Irving Park entrances and starting your adventures there!
Our favorite place to hangout when visiting Maeve's home! Southport has been a staple in Maeve's life since going to elementary school just a few blocks away and getting to enjoy all the street has to offer from day one. If we are in Chicago, you can find us here at least once a day. Southport has shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and more! Some of our favorites are Corridor Brewery for beer, Southport Grocer for breakfast, Butcher's Tap to watch a game, and Crosby's Kitchen for a great dinner.
A great family friendly (and free!) option for the day. Lincoln Park Zoo is a ton of fun for all ages, especially on a nice summer day. The zoo is also a short walk over to North Avenue Beach if you are in the mood to get some sun afterwards. If you’re hungry, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder is right around the corner for a delicious Chicago staple.
With locations all around the city, Lou Malnatis is always a crowd favorite. During Alex’s first trip to Chicago in 2018 for Lollapalooza he tried the deep dish for the first time and still talks about it today! Maeve had the privilege of growing up next to a Lou Malnatis and has lots of great memories surrounding this pizza.
The architecture tour is a great way to get some beautiful views and learn more about the city with a cruise down the Chicago River. The tour is offered several times throughout the day, it’s easy to fit into your itinerary. The tour covers more than 130 years of architectural history! We recommend booking your tickets beforehand.
Lincoln Square is a Chicago staple where everyone can find something they like! We highly recommend checking out the local shops including Merz Apothecary, The Book Cellar, and Enjoy. If you are hungry (or in the mood for a coffee) you can't go wrong with Oromo Cafe or Pastores + Brunch. If you're lucky you may even catch some live music in the plaza while you are there!
Everyone loves a good beach day with a beautiful view!
The collection of art available at The Art Institute of Chicago is truly one of a kind and something that is unique to the city. It is a world-renowned art museum housing one of the largest permanent collections in the United States. With many free daily tours and a wide variety of exhibits, we think there is something for everyone here!
